Key Stage 4

(Years 10 & 11)

In Key Stage 4 pupils will follow a variety of core subjects and optional subjects over a two-week timetable which will lead to a range of qualifications at the end of year 11.

The majority of the lessons over the two weeks will be GCSE/Entry Level qualifications in the core subjects (Welsh, English, Mathematics and Science). All pupils will follow a Skills Challenge Certificate qualification or a Work of Work qualification.

Pupils will have choose three option subjects which include;

As part of our Key Stage 4 provision, Ysgol Maes Y Gwendraeth works in partnership with Coleg Sir Gar which provides specialist vocational courses within the of choice subjects such as Construction, Agriculture, Hair and Beauty and Car Engineering.

The school provides non-exam statutory lessons in Physical Education and Religious Studies together with Well-being and Financial Literacy lessons as part of the pupils' personal development.

There will be an opportunity for some pupils to gain additional qualifications beyond normal lessons in Additional Mathematics and Financial Literacy.

During Year 11, the pupils will begin the process of deciding their subjects for their A Level studies if their route is to return to school for Sixth Form. This process will be completed following the publication of their GCSE results in Year 11.
